Nisleit’s Country Inn Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Nope. Not me. Not again. I have been twice and that was twice too many. With this location they could do so much (right off the interstate) but the food and service are terrible. The person who said "it feels like you are eating in an old folks home" hits the nail on the head.

Blggghh. Ick. Yuck. I went to dinner at Nisleit's Country Inn with my uncle tonight for their Friday Fish Fry. The hostess (a Suzie Orman doppleganger) was very personable, and clearly the restaurant's shining star. Our waitress was absolutely terrible. We sat for five minutes in a relatively quiet restaurant. Nileit's has two tiny dining areas, and you can see the kitchen from pretty much any part of the place. When the waitress "discovered" us, we both ordered coffee, as well as our meals at the same time. Five minutes later we got the coffee, but the waitress had to make a trip back because she forgot the sweetener. By the time she got back, I was almost done with the coffee. I thought, "no big deal", at the time. My uncle ordered for us, as he was excited to treat us to a fish fry. He ordered the Pollack with choice of potato and cole slaw and rye bread, and an appetizer of onion rings (haystack style). About fifteen minutes later, our onion rings arrived, but we were out of coffee. The waitress said she would bring some, but must have forgotten. A queen's age passed while we sat with our long-empty cups. Then the oddest thing happened. The waitress dropped of two small ramekins of cole slaw and flitted away. Ummm, okay. She noticed our empty cups and promised to return with coffee. It never happened. An inordinately long period of time passed and our food finally came. But no coffee. The waitress explained that they were brewing a fresh pot of coffee, and that she would bring it out to us. Never happened. Near the end of the meal, she came by to inquire about our meals, and that's when my uncle said, "the coffee, please". OMG, five minutes later we finally got the damn coffee. I didn't realize it was such a valuable commodity! Now, about the meal itself. I didn't want to say this in front of my uncle because I didn't want him to feel badly, but it was not good. The onion rings were tasty and hot--typical greasy haystack onion rings. Then the meals came. The fish was very (as in overly) hot, very salty, very dry, and very much like a Mrs. Paul's fish stick, only flattened out. Not so wonderful. Let's just say, I didn't finish it. I had a baked potato, which is difficult to prepare improperly. But somehow Nisleit's managed to get it wrong. It was not flavorful, and had two black (rotten) eyes in it, which I immediately cut out of the potato. They were hard and "benign", so I was able to pick them out without much effort. The texture of the potato was "pasty", and the side of butter had a tainted, sour taste that was very foreign to me. Had it been sitting out too long? I guess I'll find out later tonight. The rye bread was also generically flavorless. It was the perfect compliment to a bad meal. My final recommendation: If you're thinking of eating here, save your money. Stay in and "trust the Gorton's Fisherman". It will taste better and you don't have to leave the comfort of your own home.

We stopped here on our way home on a Sunday morning. Think we got there around ten. Always saw their advertisement along the highway and it seemed like it would be a nice place. There were a fair amount of cars in the lot which is usually a good sign. The young lady that greeted us was very nice and led us to a table. The dining room was pretty full but there was a table available that was just vacated which we were seated at. We sat and waited a good five minutes before a waitress came to our table to give us water and silverware. This is when we found out it was "brunch" and we could go in the other room and get what we wanted. We needed coffee but it took another long five minutes for her to return with that. Brunch means buffet which we are both leery of. We were directed to the buffet or, "made to order" omelets and waffles. We got in line for the buffet, some fruit and what should be hot food. Nothing was hot except the what tastes like powdered eggs. Have you ever had cold eggs Benedict? Not good. Barely warm sausages and bacon. Oh, we found out coffee was "extra". Our bill, which also took forever to get, for two mostly in edible meals and coffee was TWENTY-FIVE BUCKS! I couldn't believe it. Find somewhere else to eat because this is not the place you want.

Reinhart or Sysco? Doesn't matter for a bunch of processed pumped food.

No. They do quantity over quality. I ordered the Canadian Walleye and it was flavorless except for the extremely fishy taste.

Kinda like eating at the old folks home. Food is way overpriced for the quality!

We pulled in to to some suddenly scary weather on I-43. The food was adequate, but not stellar. My burger was well seasoned, and the highlight. The staff were all gruff and somewhat unpleasant. Next time we'll go somewhere else to shelter!

So... If there was a a way to give it zero stars that would still be too much.... Remember your crappy lunches in the high school cafeteria??? That would be 5 stars compared to this sad excuse for a restaurant.... Pork chop was fatty, without taste and nasty....is that what they mean by the other white meat??? Wife's perch sandwich would have been better with a TV Dinner fish stick... Upside....Iced tea was not bad Downside....everything else.... Bill was 26 bucks....if they paid me 50 I wouldn't come back!!!! That was an hour of my life I will never get back!!! Decor??? Think a prison cafe... Service??? She got the food to us... Value....Duh!!!! Yikes!!!

Save yourself some time, money, and your stomach the disappointment of stopping here for lunch. The company I used to work for had a warehouse close to here and stopped in a few times to try out the lunch - big mistake. The restaurant is very open and has a retirement community feel to it. The colors are bland and the menu not inspiring at all. I had a few different dishes with my boss at the time and both of us were beyond disappointed with the food quality. The service wasn't the best but seems more like a dinner/buffet than it is an actual restaurant. The food comes out on the George Webb's style plates that have been used for decades without updating. Overall, the food was greasy, bland, and was horrible. Those were the only few times I've been there and won't be going back anytime soon. You can see the other people's reviews all giving it 1 star so there is a clear problem here.

I moved to Port Washington several years ago and live within a few blocks of Nisleits, so I've tried their food a few times. Their French onion soup is great, and my husband likes the smothered chicken. I love fish, so one time I ordered the talapia (or was it cod?) but it came out so spoiled that I actually gagged on it, sent it back, and couldn't eat the applesauce they offered me in replacement. It totally spoiled my appetite. The waitress admitted that neither she nor the cook knew anything about preparing fish..Another time, I came for the all-you-can-eat shrimp, but the shrimp was like eating rubber. Extremely overcooked. My advice is to avoid anything on the menu related to fish and/or seafood, a sorry thing since Port Washington is known for its fish.

Stopped in for a fish fry at around 8 and sat for 15 min waiting for a waitress. Walked out disappointed and had a fine dinner elsewhere. No wonder the parking lot was empty.

Over the years this place has gone down hill. They are now hitting bottom. The hostess is tired of her job and should have been pushed into the kitchen to wash dishes years ago. Or if the owner was smart FIRED. WAIT, she is the owner. The last two times we went there they wanted us to wait for a table. Wow, there were empty tables available. The push to get us to buy a drink before eating dinner. I asked why we had to wait and I was told they only had two waitresses. So, for the second time we walked out. This is no way to run a business. I go there only because my elderly mother likes it. No surprise, it is like being in a senior center. The decor is old and dirty. The food SUCKS. The hostess is useless. Never again. Went to another restaurant last night in Port. Plenty of servers and a happy hostess. Dinner was great. No one will miss this place when it closes.
